The “Change for Delran's Future” team today announced their slate for the May 13th non-partisan municipal election in Delran.
Heading the ticket as the mayoral candidate is current Ward Two Councilman Ken Paris. Paris, a Software Program Manager at Lockheed Martin, unseated an incumbent councilman by a nearly three to one margin two years ago and wants to continue to improve the quality of life for residents of Delran.
“My family and I love Delran. That is why I feel we need to change the way our government is run. For too long we have had career politicians like Mike Chinnici in office who raise taxes, increase spending and promote politics as usual. Delran families want real change that we can believe in and that makes government mor eopen and transparent. The ‘Change for Delran's Future’ team is committed to holding the line on taxes, making government more open and responsive to our residents and making the changes necessary to not only keep Delran a great place to live but make it even greater,” said Paris.
Under Mike Chinnici and his fellow council members, the local purpose tax in Delran has increased every year he has been in office with the exception of the reassessment year. In fact, the Chinnici-led Delran Council has increased taxes a whopping 38% in the past 3 years alone!
The skyrocketing taxes and mismanagement in Delran allowed Ken Paris to recruit two dynamic leaders to join his team. Gary Catrambone and John Moran will join the “Change for Delran's Future” team as candidates for council.
Catrambone, a financial advisor and business owner active in numerous civic and charitable endeavors – like the March of Dimes and Red Cross – started a community-oriented website to allow access to government that the current council refused to provide.
“Since 1998, I have regularly attended Township Council meetings in an effort to promote more accessible, approachable government in Delran. Until Ken was elected two years ago, we had no one on Council who shared a commitment to working FOR the residents of Delran. I will do the necessary work to stop the mismanagement, get spending under control and hold the line on taxes,” said Catrambone.
Moran, an electrician with the IBEW Local 351 has also been involved in numerous civic activities in Delran over the last 20 years. A teacher and coach, Moran believes that the elected officials in Delran need to ensure that taxes are stabilized so families can spend more time with their kids and less time worrying how they will pay their property tax bills.
“We need to change the way politics operate in Delran. I want to work with Ken and Gary to unite the residents and help them feel confident that their local elected officials are working FOR them. Our residents deserve to know that their tax dollars are being utilized wisely and that their government communicate sopenly and honestly with them. We're going to make Delran a better place to live by changing the way the goverment operates,” said Moran.
The Delran municipal election will be held Tuesday, May 13th.
